The human nature is about growth, about development and this is where innovation leadership comes into the picture. The need for leaders who can innovate todays existing world into a better tomorrow are a great asset. The cultural climate is important here in regards to whether it cultivates and rewards innovation leadership or not.
Qualities needed for excellence in innovation leadership are things such as curiosity, playfulness and boldness. All these are naturally existent in a healthy child. Sadly a lot of times we supress these characteristics of a great leader in the child. By cautioning to much or not rewardig innovative efforts made by kids.
If we are able to keep alive or awaken these things in our adult life we have near endless potential to create beyond what was thought possible.
There are several awards around that are given to leaders of innovation. They play an important part in a society that encourages and grows people who think outside the box, who dare to stand out and who have the desire to lead.
How we handle mistakes are a vital part of the equation. Do we consider them bad things to be avoided at all costs or do we even encourage them as they are learning experiences? For innovation leadership to prosper a sound view on making a mistake is necessary. A famous role model for this is Thomas Edison who claims he did not have 1000 failed experiments on the way to creating the little bulb. In his view it was simple developed in 1001 steps.
Well spoken from one of the greatest innovation leaders of all time.
Getting good at innovation leadership is a matter of daily practice. It is a habit, a view of the world that can be trained and gained. It is not all predestined from birth. As noted above the culture that surrounds you matters, but in the end it is your choice to innovate and lead or not.
